Schenectady man arrested following Central Ave. crash involving police cruiser

COLONIE  , N.Y. – The driver of the car chase that allegedly hit a police cruiser and injured a police officer on Central Ave. Saturday night has been arrested.

Tommy Ehlers, 28, of Schenectady is facing several charges including assault, reckless endangerment and driving while impaired by drugs, Colonie Police said.

Shortly after 4:00 p.m. Saturday, Ehlers was seen by an officer speeding down central avenue, police say.

When the officer tried to pull him over, he sped up and eventually hit the police car.

The officer inside was injured, taken to Albany Medical Center and has since been released.

Police ask anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the Colonie Police Traffic Unit at 518-783-2744.
