Demolitions underway after Schenectady mudslide

SCHENECTADY — Two houses and a garage were being demolished Monday after a mudslide in Schenectady over the weekend.

It trapped multiple people in a home.

The mudslide happened behind Nott Terrace at the end of Barney Street shortly after 1 a.m. on Sunday. It trapped multiple people in a home. A 19-year-old person was trapped under the dirt and had to be pulled to safety.

In total, twenty-three people were evacuated.

Several roads in the area remain closed. CDTA buses were being rerouted.

Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy declared a State of Emergency covering 223 Nott Terr., 213 Nott Terr., 219 Nott Terr., 225 Nott Terr., 227 Nott Terr., 11 Barney St., 15 Barney St., and 2 Daggett Terr.
