Schoharie County home destroyed by early morning fire

SEWARD - A family in Schoharie County escaped injuries after an early morning fire, but they lost their home.

The fire broke out at a home on Bush Street in the town of Seward.

The fire department tells NewsChannel 13 it started as a chimney fire, and then spread to the rest of the house.

The family was home at the time and able to get out safely. The family of nine included seven kids ranging from four to 15 years old.

The house is a total loss.

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Red Cross is helping the family now.
