Investigators are working on figuring out what started a fire early Monday morning at a restaurant in Cobleskill.

Flames were shooting out the back of Justine's on West Main Street when firefighters got there.

The assistant fire chief says the biggest obstacle to battling this blaze was the lack of firefighters.

From Middleburgh to Richmondville, there were a lot of departments battling the blaze. Cobleskill Assistant Fire Chief Cody Whittaker says that's not necessarily a good thing

“I would say the obvious challenge today in the volunteer service is the lack of manpower. As you can see here, there are multiple fire department agencies throughout the whole county, departments on standby all the way out to Esperance and Sharon Springs,” Whittaker said.

Dispatchers got the first call for the fire around 4:15 a.m.

There were no injuries. The assistant chief says there's a lot of damage to the roof, the back of the building, and the second floor. On the first floor, it's water and smoke damage.

He says the structure is intact, but the fire is a big blow to a family business.

There is no word yet on the cause of the fire.
