Tedisco criticizes plan for new license plate fees

A highway heist – that's what Senator Jim Tedisco is calling Governor Cuomo's new license plate proposal.
NewsChannel 13 first told you about the plan when it was rolled out last month.
The governor wants to tack a $25 fee on new state plates, which will be required for more than three million drivers. He also wants another $20 if you want to keep your same number.
That can add up to more than $70 million for the state, which Tedisco and other lawmakers say is an unfair and unnecessary cash grab.
Tedisco says the plates are made by prison inmates and cost just over $1 each to make.
The governor's office has said these license plates are needed because older ones can't be read at cashless tolls or on red LED cameras.
