September 23, 2019 05:13 PM

The Moreau homebuilder accused of stealing more than a million dollars from customers admitted her guilt on Monday.

Sherrie Burton pleaded guilty to grand larceny and scheming to defraud for taking deposits and down payments from more than 40 homebuyers and never coming up with their homes.

She ran Valued Homes and two other businesses on Route 9 in Moreau.

Prosecutors say Burton used her clients' money as if it was her own, visiting Turning Stone Casino and shopping on Amazon and the Home Shopping Network.

When she's sentenced on November 18, she could face as little as six months in jail to as much as three to nine years, depending how much of the $1 million restitution Burton comes up with.
