Skyler Crouse is now charged with murder. That's according to NewsChannel 13's Mark Mulholland.

Crouse is accused of causing the crash that killed Joseph Turcotte, a beloved Warren County boat builder.

Crouse, who lives on the Akwesasne Reservation and told police our laws don't apply to him, was arraigned on an indictment late Friday morning, which adds a charge of second-degree murder to the existing counts of manslaughter and assault.

Prosecutors say he was driving at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour, trying to get away from police when he crashed into Turcotte's truck on the Exit 25 on-ramp.

The new charge carries a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

Crouse turned down a plea offer that would send him to prison for 15 to 20 years.

Crouse's attorney says his client is overcharged.
