Owners hope unique stress reliever is a 'smashing' success

ROTTERDAM – A nurse and a massage therapist have teamed up so you can relieve some stress – by smashing stuff.

“We in no way promote any kind of violence, in fact we do just the opposite,” said Steven Meddaugh, co-owner of the Riot Room. “We say 'you feeling a little stressed? Angry? Frustrated? Need some fun? Take it out here so that way when you go out on the street you're not doing it there.'”

The Riot Room is a custom-built trailer parked inside ViaPort Mall in Rotterdam. It’s based on other ideas but Meddaugh and best friend Angel Reilly say they can do it better.

“We're a holistic duo here,” Meddaugh said.

Reilly, a black belt in Tai Kwon Do, added: “It's all about empowerment and giving ourselves permission to say hey, it's OK to feel what I feel but let's just get back to having more fun.”

The grand opening is Friday with half price events all weekend long. It's open to people age 18 and over and regular prices start at $20 for ten minutes.
