North Country hit hardest by Friday's wintry blast

Friday's snow storm hit the North Country the hardest. Steady snow resulted in the highest accumulations and slick road conditions.

By late afternoon, there were 35 accidents in Saratoga County. The sheriff's department reported that all were relatively minor. NewsChannel 13's media partners at the Post Star reported accidents on the Northway at Exits 22 and 23 during the day Friday.

Traffic on the Northway was slow moving on this side of the Twin Bridges. State plows worked sometimes three wide to clear the interstate.

It will be a hard night's work for crews in Glens Falls, cleaning up during a 10-hour city-wide no parking order. The city called a snow emergency, meaning there is no parking allowed on any streets beginning at 8 p.m. Friday and ending at 6 a.m. Saturday.

A snow storm on the last work day before Christmas is bittersweet. Just ask some third graders in Saratoga Springs.

"I didn't really want a snow day, but I still wanted to play outside," said Meghan Kempf, Saratoga Springs third grader.

The class Christmas party was cancelled because of a snow day. On the bright side, Christmas break started a day early.

NewsChannel 13 visited Broadway to see what the snow did to business

"Looking out the window here, and seeing the snow and helping them in the shop, kind of makes my day," said Rhea Lovedoran, Saratoga Olive Oil Co. "We know that they're diehard shoppers or late minute Lucys."

Lovedoran said business at Saratoga Olive Oil Company was swift. Chuck Vosganian was among the shoppers on Broadway.

"I'm out here today because it is a sense of urgency. Christmas is coming. It really is coming," said Vosganian.
