ALBANY -

The latest snow storm to hit the Capital Region forced about 100 or so closings, cancellations and delays in the area Wednesday.

It gave kids like Aolani Duncan a welcomed snow day.

“My favorite thing to do here on this hill is to make snow angels,” Aolani said as she played in the snow at Lincoln Park.

What better place to spend a snow day than in the snow?

“I teach in the local area so after being inside for most of the afternoon they decided instead of going to the museum they decided we'd go back home and put on our snow gear and come out and take the slopes,” said Aolini’s father, Akili Duncan.

Aolani and Jahleigha Duncan and their other siblings used the snow day to get some sledding pointers from their father.

“They like the thrill of the big hills,” Akili said.

“Because if go on the small hill we'll go weeee if we go on the big hill we'll go aaaahhh,” Jahleigha Duncan said.

Kids weren’t the only ones who enjoyed the snow day.

“We actually ended up getting exams cancelled so we got super excited and we're like what can we possibly do that we finally have time off from this place,” said Katy Veeder, who attends Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

Veeder opted to use time off from the college to hit the slopes at Lincoln Park with classmates like Austin Morley-Sloan.

“We figured why not,” Morley-Sloan said. “It's the first snow day of the year,” Morley-Sloan said. “Might as well go sledding. Have some fun outside instead of being indoors.”

Delaney Frears appreciated the outing, calling it great for work-life balance.

“We're all in pharmacy school so it’s quite a bit of work so it's just fun to get out of here unwind a bit and slide down the hill like you were when you were a kid,” she said.

Taylor Thompson was practically a kid the last time she went sledding.

“Maybe high school, 10th grade,” Thompson said. “I haven't been sledding in a long time so this is my first time in a while but it’s still just as fun.”

“The big hill will be fun because it's really fast and it’s bigger,” Aolani said.
