GREENPORT - A car suddenly jerked to the side of the road at the intersection of Routes 9 & 23, known as Buckley's Corners, after the driver was stabbed multiple times by the passenger, according to Columbia County Sheriff David Bartlett.
"She pulled over and got out of the car at that point where actually a bystander helped her," Bartlett said. "She was taken ultimately to Columbia Memorial Hospital." He added that the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
While she took refuge with another driver, investigators say the male passenger, the suspect, ran to the driver's side and tried to pull out but was stopped quickly by Sheriff's units, Greenport Police and the New York State Police.
Bartlett calls this a domestic issue and says police recovered the weapon.
