BENNINGTON, Vt. - The State Office complex in Bennington was locked down after reports of a shooting Monday morning, but that turned out not to be the case.

Police say a caller reported a car window was shot out in the parking lot at the Bennington Superior Court just before 8 a.m.

It turns out the popping noises the caller heard were actually caused by a loose item in the car that struck the back window, which caused it to shatter.

Police say there was no shooting.
