Schenectady cop arrested after alleged fight in Utica

A Schenectady cop has been arrested in Utica.

The department says detective Steven Nelson was in a fight while off-duty.

He's facing a violation level offense.

The department is now investigating.


Police Chief Eric Clifford released the following statement:

"The Schenectady Police Department prides itself on being professional, trustworthy, and transparent. My expectations are that all of our officers conduct themselves as consummate professionals, both on and off duty. While I do not condone the actions of Detective Nelson, I urge the public to continue to support and trust the Schenectady Police Department and its Officers."
