Precautions strongly urged during dangerous heatwave

July 19, 2019 05:30 PM

If you do have to be outside in the heat, please take precautions.

First, wear the right clothing. The Mayo Clinic recommends loose-fitting, light weight clothing. It helps your body to cool itself naturally. A broad-brimmed hat can also help to keep your body temp down and protect you from sunburn.

Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day. Even running errands or visiting friends should be scheduled for the morning or evening hours when temps are lower and the sun is less intense.

If you can't avoid the hottest part of the day, make sure you stay hydrated and take regular breaks in cool areas to avoid overheating.
