PITTSFIELD- Three people died in a mobile home fire early Saturday morning.

The Pittsfield Fire Department responded to the call around 3:40 a.m. at 11 Lakewood Drive in Lake Onota Village.

Two residents managed to escape the home and were taken to Berkshire Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries and were treated at Berkshire Medical Center. The home was heavily damaged. The Pittsfield fire chief says fire fighters had difficulty getting water at first, and called for backup tankers. The home was destroyed.

The fire isn't believed to be suspicious, but is being investigated. Berkshire County District attorney Andrea Harrington says the cause was determined to be a candle or smoking material in the master bedroom. The bodies were taken to Boston, where autopsies are expected to take place today or tomorrow. Names of the victims have not yet been released.
