The alarming video of a tractor trailer passing a school bus has prompted a state police investigation.

The Brunswick-Brittonkill School District says unfortunately, this happens too often on bus routes.

The woman who took that video on Wednesday says every single day someone passes the school bus that's either picking up her daughter in the morning, or dropping her off in the afternoon. A Brunswick-Brittonkill school bus driver NewsChannel 13 spoke with on Thursday agrees. He says something like this probably happens at least once a day. However, this time it was caught on camera.

Here's where it gets a little weird. The website HeloOne.com doesn't return a result. However, when you Google it, you get a search result for an Amazon item that's described as a "Fitbit on steroids."

NewsChannel 13 reached out to the company on Facebook Thursday to ask about the illegal passing, but we didn't hear back.

We spoke with the district superintendent Angelina Maloney. She says of the 25 buses the district has, about a quarter of them are equipped with stop arm cameras. The one involved in the video wasn't.

A number of people commenting on a NewsChannel 13 Facebook post made mention of the flashing lights, which you really can't see in the brief video. A witness who gave a statement to state police investigators says they were on. In fact Maloney says the bus driver can't open the door until the red lights are flashing, mind you that's after the yellow lights come on, warning surrounding drivers that the bus is slowing down and is about to make a stop.

Maloney says state police and the Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office are always extremely helpful when they run into a situation like this.

NewsChannel 13 continues to follow this story. We will be sure to pass along any new information on WNYT.com and our later newscasts.
