Tribute for veterans in Schenectady

August 26, 2018 10:30 AM

SCHENECTADY-- It's a tribute for what they've accomplished all around the world, but the message of thanks and appreciation comes from one tiny, tight-knit community, the Bellevue Neighborhood in Schenectady.

Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara wanted to make sure the George Westinghouse and Bellevue Veterans Park is something the community is eternally proud of.

The state grant money he secured funded much needed renovations at the park, not the least of which was a new flagpole.

In addition, these memorial plaques needed refurbishing, this stone monument had to be restored, there's new lighting, and brand new signage, unveiled Saturday by the men and women being honored.

In a world that is constantly changing, the message here today is that there needs to be a constant, that the men and women who wore the country's uniform will always be remembered and their sacrifice and service never forgotten.
