Gazzale and his mother crossed the pink finish line together Sunday. She said she fought cancer to have moments like this.

"I love him more than he'll ever know,” said Gazzale’s mother Madeline. “I fight every day for my children and my husband and my grandchildren and my extended family."

Gazzale said the 31 miles were challenging, but he did it for a purpose.

"31 miles is a long way, fighting cancer every day is an even longer way,” said Gazzale. “Keep fighting every day and don't let anybody stop you."

Gazzale is married to NewsChannel 13’s Karen Tararache. He had friends and family run with him along the route that went from Troy to Delmar and back. Some of the people included members of NewsChannel 13.
