It was a slower than usual morning commute Monday morning near Freeman's Bridge. A truck burst into flames just before 7 a.m. off Freeman's Bridge Road on Tryon Avenue.
The driver said he saw a small glow under the hood, stopped, and tried to put it out with a blanket. Then he ran to a nearby nursing home to get a fire extinguisher.
By that time it was too late.
