Tulip Festival gets underway in Albany

The 70th annual Tulip Festival happens this weekend in the Capital City.

Ceremonies began Friday at noon with the street scrubbing at State and Lodge streets. The street scrubbing included Mayor Kathy Sheehan's Tulip Festival opening proclamation and a procession from City Hall.

Other events planned for the weekend include the naming of the Tulip Queen, a tulip luncheon, tulip tours, and the naming of the Mother of the Year. Several bands and vendors will be on hand throughout the weekend.

The Tulip Festival features 140,000 tulips in 150 different varieties.
