ALBANY- Two 18-year-olds are facing assault charges after an incident on the Empire State Plaza during the Fourth of July celebration.

State police say a trooper saw one of them setting off roman candle fireworks in a crowded area.

Police say the suspect resisted arrest and punched the trooper in the face.

Then, the other 18-year-old allegedly started punching the trooper. More troopers arrived on scene and took the two into custody after a brief struggle.

Two of the troopers were treated for minor injuries.
