NewsChannel 13 is kicking off a week of in-depth reporting on violence and hate crimes against the Asian American Pacific Islander community. It’s called "Culture in the Crosshairs: Countering a Surge of Hate."

Our team has been working very hard to cover all angles of this, hoping to raise awareness of the problem right here in the Capital Region.

Angie Chung, a sociology professor at University at Albany, has made it her focus to study this topic for the past two years. She says America has had a long history of viewing Asian Americans in two completely different ways.

Learn what they are and what Chung says about the progress being made to change those perceptions by watching the video of Subrina Dhammi’s story.
