The CDC says the UK variant of the coronavirus is now the dominant strain across the country.
According to the CDC director, these new cases are happening mostly in young people.
"Across the country, we're hearing reports of clusters of cases associated with daycare centers and youth sports. Hospitals are seeing more and younger adults, those in their 30s and 40s admitted with severe disease,” said CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky.
Due to that, Dr. Walensky says areas seeing higher numbers should stop youth sports that can’t be held outdoors.
New York saw its first confirmed case of the UK variant in late December, and right here in the Capital Region.
The first confirmed case in the state was in Saratoga Springs at N. Fox Jewelers on Broadway.
