(KSL) American Airlines removed 20 Utah passengers – all of them members of the same family – from its Salt Lake City flight to Dallas Sunday.

According to the airline, the family was noncompliant with their face covering policy.

The Wilson family said that was not the case, and there was only one incident while boarding where a mask accidentally fell below a member's nose but was quickly corrected.

"I didn't really see who it was but somebody said, 'Hey, you know, keep your mask up,'" Scott Wilson said. "I dropped everything and moved it up, picked up my stuff and made our way to the back of the plane."

Wilson said when the family finally got to their seats, a gate agent approached them with some bad news from the crew.

"He said, 'Well, they want you to leave the plane,'" Wilson said. "I said, 'What, they want us to get off the plane? Can we talk, can we have a conversation?' Nobody has even really talked to us."

The family said the gate agent left and came back again insisting the captain of the flight crew needed them off.
