He was released Friday to cheers at the Jesse Brown Veteran Affairs Medical Center.

While hospitalized, Reaves went through some important milestones, celebrating his 42nd birthday, watching his son turn 18 and graduate high school.

The VA hospital does a special release for veterans who are hospitalized they call the Healing Heroes ceremony.

Each veteran is given a celebratory escort from the unit and employees cheer and applaud the veteran's release and in some cases, break out in song.
