Walmart announced they are no longer going to require customers and employees who are fully vaccinated to wear masks inside their stores.

This comes after the CDC updated their guidelines Thursday.

Many people in the Capital Region say they welcome the change. A few say this is a sign that life is getting back to normal. However, not everybody is on board with the decision.

Walmart announced that starting Tuesday all of their employees who are vaccinated no longer have to wear a mask. The employees just have to provide proof they've been vaccinated. The store will not ask shoppers if they've been vaccinated. This decision also applies to Sam's Club stores. Masks will also continue to be required by some city and state ordinances. Walmart says they will abide by all of the local ordinances.  Some who came to the Crossgates Commons Plaza welcomed the news, while others say they prefer people to still wear masks.

"I still feel like that isn't a smart idea just cause other people aren't vaccinated it doesn't mean that they shouldn't wear a mask because they still have to go home and stuff and be around their children," said Bishop Fraser, an Albany resident.

"I mean if they're fully vaccinated then they shouldn't have to wear a mask cause masks are really bad for us because we're not supposed to be inhaling our own oxygen, so if they're fully vaccinated, they are safe," said Destiny Allen, an Albany resident.

Governor Cuomo hasn't announced any new guidelines for the state of New York when it comes to mask-wearing. So local Walmarts may not be able to implement the rules just yet.
