We Salute You: Joseph Colello

NewsChannel 13 salutes Navy Radioman and Seaman 1st Class Joeseph Colello. 

Colello is from West Albany and is 91-years-old; while in the Navy he was a radioman on the USS Terror, which was operating off Kerama Retto in the South Pacific as Americans prepared for the invasion of Okinawa. The Terror was bombed by a kamikaze pilot on May 1, 1945.

Joe spent months recovering from severe burns in Saipan, Hawaii, and finally California before heading back to New York six months later, and believes he escaped from the burning ship only through prayers from home.
