BOSTON, Mass. - A World War II memorial in South Boston has been vandalized.

Massachusetts State Police say they found something they think is oil splashed or poured on the granite memorial stones on Monday.

WBTS reports the memorial has been around for 15 years and has more than 200 names.

Clean-up crews spent hours power washing the memorial and using Dawn soap to try and clean it.

Even worse, the memorial's creator died Monday night.
