RENSSELAER - It's a bittersweet time in both the main office and garage at Yankee Trails. They just sent a motorcoach to Boston for the Patriots' victory parade and there are other busses and trips still going, and they are recalling the founder of the company, John Tobin, Jr. He was 84.
"He always said you work hard, you play hard," said one of Tobin's seven kids, Stephen Tobin, the CEO. "But you've always got to work hard first. He was that type of guy. Saturdays and Sundays were just two extra days to get a jump on the competition was the way he looked at it."
Named for the city where the song "Yankee Doodle" was penned, the company has trips to shows and ballgames, parades and tours. Tobin and his wife Mary had seven kids and 13 grandkids.
"He was a character," said Stephen. "He was an old school character. He talked about business and family. Those were really the only two topics he ever really wanted to talk about."
