HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - Joe Biden has delivered a forceful rebuke of President Donald Trump and other Washington Republicans, saying they've turned their backs on American values in the name of "phony populism" and "fake nationalism."
The former vice president made his remarks Thursday at the New York Democratic convention on Long Island, where Biden endorsed Gov. Andrew Cuomo's bid for a third term.
Biden said the Republican Party has changed and are no longer "who America is." He says they embody a "distorted" view of America that enriches the wealthiest at the expense of the middle class, the poor and minorities. He called on Democrats to stand up for tolerance and programs that expand education and economic opportunity.
Cuomo faces actress and activist Cynthia Nixon in the September Democratic primary.
