Childhood victims of rape and sexual assault demand passage of long-stalled act

Dozens of childhood victims of rape and sexual assault rally in Albany, demanding lawmakers pass the long-stalled Child Victims Act.

Survivors are urging quick action on the bill, which would extend statutes of limitations, giving victims more time to seek criminal charges or sue abusers.

The act was blocked for years by Senate Republicans, but now Democrats have a majority in both the state Assembly and Senate.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo wants to include the act in the state budget. However, a spokesperson says he will sign the bill sooner if it passes before that.
