Former New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, once Albany's most powerful Democrat, has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
A jury again found him guilty this spring of earning nearly $4 million illegally by collecting fees from a cancer researcher and real estate developers.
The judge told the 74-year-old Democrat that corruption is a crime that attacks the heart of our system of government.
He must surrender on Oct. 1.
NewsChannel 13 has a crew at the sentencing. Watch for live reports beginning on Live at 4.
