Farmers call for standardizing working conditions on NY farms

ALBANY - A group of farmers were driving tractors and haymakers up State Street in Albany on Wednesday, calling for change. The farmers want to make sure that workers stay and grow.
After a wet spring and seasonal planting delayed, a bill that would require overtime pay for their employees working more than eight hours a day or 40 hours a week could go through.
Farmers face challenges, including weather and long hours. With more than 30,000 farms from Long Island to St. Lawrence to Buffalo, they try to stay competitive.
If passed, lobbyists say farms would have to cut hours and workers would go elsewhere. Prices for fresh food at our table would also go up significantly.
