Federal shutdown could put some Berkshire County school meals in jeopardy

If this federal shutdown continues past March - free lunches and breakfasts at Pittsfield and North Adams schools could be in jeopardy.

The schools could be on the hook for the costs of the thousands of free meals they provide.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture updated districts this week on the status of the programs. They said funding is already covered for January -- and this week, they will provide an additional two months of funding. After that, local schools will have to consider the next steps.
