The law would take away a judge's discretion to decide whether to set bail.

The effects of this new law are already showing up in the high profile case against Harvey Weinstein, who's due back in court ahead of the start of his sexual assault trial.

He is currently free on $1 million bail and has a bail hearing now scheduled for Friday.
