NY Assembly speaker: 'I don't agree with the Second Amendment, but I respect it.'

Lawmakers have been reacting to the shooting and gun control laws.

State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie was in Mechanicville Wednesday morning.

NewsChannel 13 asked him about his thoughts on recent shootings.

"I really want the country to self-reflect. I know people want to have guns. You know, people want to hunt, people want to protect their houses. But I really think this country should really look again at the need for assault weapons that let out 60 bullets in a minute. I don't agree with the Second Amendment, but I respect it," said Heastie.

Heastie added stronger laws nationally would be needed on top of the strong state laws.
