Gillibrand comes home to lay out case for presidential candidacy

BRUNSWICK - Senator Kirsten Gillibrand held her first event since announcing the launch of her exploratory committee for a 2020 presidential run.

At a podium on Wednesday outside of a diner near the home where she grew up, Senator Gillibrand laid out her case for her candidacy.

She says the reason her headquarters are in Troy is because Troy is like a lot of America.

Gillibrand says she wants to fight for people who feel they have been left behind.

She said money has to get out of politics. She said she will not have a Political Action Committee -- and will not take corporate money.

The senator said President Trump is looking for any way to separate the country -- and he's tearing the country apart.

Here's some background on Gillibrand:

She is 52 years old, married and a mother of two. She attended Emma Willard, Dartmouth and UCLA Law School.

In 2006, she defeated Rep. John Sweeney. She was appointed Senator in 2009. After winning a special election in 2010, she was elected to a full six-year term in 2012. She won reelection last November.
