ALBANY - The cost of prescription drugs is skyrocketing and AARP is calling on lawmakers to do something about it. It's launching a new campaign called "#StopRXGreed."

A grassroots group of senior activists were at the Legislative Office Building in Albany on Tuesday. They have gone to war against big pharma.

The group of registered warriors from AARP was well-organized – and very energized. They are determined to get their point across to lawmakers.

The group wants to see three things. That includes cheaper, generic drugs in New York state. They also want drug companies to reveal if they have entered into deals that would delay the arrival of cheaper drugs into the marketplace. In addition, they want the state attorney general to have more prosecutorial tools in their toolbox to go after drug makers who might be engaged in price gouging.

AARP says in recent years, the price of drugs – especially for seniors, has skyrocketed to four times the rate of inflation.

In many cases, some of the senior New Yorkers are forced to make a choice between their medicine and food – or medicine and rent.
