A long-time staple of the Saratoga Springs Fire Department has worked his final shift.

Assistant Chief Peter Shaw, a 34-year veteran of the department, walked out of the Lake Avenue Firehouse on Monday to be greeted by colleagues from across the county.

Shaw started with the department in 1986 and rose up the ranks to become assistant chief in 2011.

The 60-year-old Shaw is also a state fire instructor and chief of the Malta Ridge Fire Department, so he's not leaving the service he first entered as a teenager.
