Deputies exposed to unknown chemical triggering hazmat situation

Deputies responding to a welfare check in Charlton found a man dead inside a home, and they also came in contact with an unknown chemical.

NewsChannel 13 was at the property on Crooked Street on Monday.


Deputies say they found the man unresponsive, and then also found an unknown liquid.

DEC was at the scene, working with deputies.

Three members of the sheriff’s office were exposed to the chemical and were treated for it.

It is unclear what happened to the man and what type of chemical it was.
