Momentive Performance Materials is slapped with a hefty fine from the state.

The Department of Environmental Conservation says the company will need to pay $2.3 million in penalties and community compensation.

A million dollars of fine is for air, water and hazardous waste violations.

Another million dollars will go toward a benefit project for Waterford and Halfmoon communities.

Then, $300,000 will be for tax forgiveness for the school district.

The fine settles violations at the facility dating back to 2007, and the DEC says it enables Momentive to undertake the operational upgrades.
