Intel Corporation is exploring a deal to buy GlobalFoundries.

The Wall Street Journal reports the deal could be around $30 billion.

The Journal reports the move would increase plans to make more chips for other tech companies.

This comes as Congress is currently debating whether to spend $52 billion on semi-conductor research and manufacturing.

Senator Chuck Schumer is scheduled to visit GlobalFoundries in Malta on Monday.
