Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand re-introduced federal legislation Thursday morning to increase the safety of stretch limousines.
Among them is a requirement for shoulder and lap belts. A requirement that all operators disclose inspection results and dates is also included.
A limo safety law went into effect in New York in January. That requires vehicles converted into stretch limousines to have a seatbelt for every passenger. It also enhances license requirements for drivers.
It's been more than two years since the deadly Schoharie limo crash killed 20 people.
