Siena naming interim coach to top job

March 22, 2019 06:35 PM

It didn't take Siena long to land a new head coach to replace Jamion Christian, who left for George Washington after one season.

As NewsChannel reported first Friday morning online, Siena Assistant Carmen Maciariello will be named the new coach. A press conference to make it all official will be held next week on Monday or Tuesday.

Siena Director of Athletics John D'Argenio said on Thursday they need to move quickly on the next hire, so they immediately tagged Maciariello the interim coach. However, that tag was removed on Friday morning.

Maciariello was an assistant under Christian this past season, but also was on Fran McCaffery's staff back in 2005.

A Siena alum, Carmen played for Saints in 2001 and was part of a MAAC regular-season championship under Louis Orr, another one and done coach.

Maciariello is from Clifton Park, played at Shen and is a former NewsChannel 13 All-Star from back in 1996.
