AMSTERDAM - Glens Falls junior Joseph Girard III scored 44 points in a 74-68 win at Amsterdam on Tuesday to surpass Lance Stephenson and become the state's all-time high school boys basketball scoring leader.

Girard III now has 2,952 career points, six more than the current Indiana Pacers player had in his high school career.

"I'm proud of these guys for helping me out and getting me to this point," Girard III said. "I couldn't do it without them."

"It's unbelievable," Glens Falls coach Rob Girard said of the record. "I'm sure it will set in after the season. But, wow, this guy from little Glens Falls is top dog in the state now."

Girard III, who averages nearly 50 points a game, will take aim at 3,000 career points in a matchup against Scotia this weekend.
