SCHENECTADY - Legal sports betting is expected to come to the Capital Region this week.

Rivers Casino in Schenectady was still waiting for the final approval as of Monday evening, but is confident its new sports betting lounge will be open for business on Tuesday morning.

It will be the first sports book in New York state history.

A ribbon cutting is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday.

A lot of time and money has been spent at the casino to convert 5,000 square feet into a lush, luxurious betting parlor with cushy couches, private booths and giant TVs to watch dozens of sporting events simultaneously around the world. That includes Major League Baseball, NFL Football, NHL Hockey, golf, college sports, you name it.

You can place your bets at attendant windows or kiosks. You cannot yet place a wager online or on your mobile phone, but most insiders believe that's just a matter of time.

The ribbon cutting on Tuesday morning will include former all-pro New York Giants kicker Sean Landeta and former New York Yankee player Bucky Dent.
