RENSSELAER - The first Grand Slam ever recorded by Major League Baseball took place on this date in 1881.
Roger Connor made history that day in Riverfront Park in Rensselaer. He hit a bases loaded home run while playing for the Troy Trojans in a game against the Worcester Ruby Legs.
Elected officials and business owners unveiled a plaque in the park late Tuesday afternoon to honor this historical event.
Connor was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1976.
