For the second-straight game, senior Kollyns Scarbrough scored 17 points and recorded 10 rebounds for a double-double. Siena (1-1) forced St. Bonaventure (1-1) to 23 turnovers and recorded eight steals.

Arielle Harvey and Jalisha Terry erupted off the bench for the Bonnies and put up 17 and 16 points, respectively. St. Bonaventure missed just two free-throws as they went 11-13 (84.6).

Surging off an 18-2 run which held the Bonnies without a field goal for 8:23 throughout the fourth quarter was the driving force that gave the Saints the decisive 70-62 victory over sister school St. Bonaventure. The Saints had their largest lead of the game with just under a minute to play, and while the Bonnies held the Saints scoreless for the final 50 seconds, the Saints held on to take the season opener victory in front of a crowd of 1,161. Sophomore Sabrina Piper erupted off the bench in the fourth quarter adding six of her 13 points in the final four minutes of play.

St. Bonaventure led by 10, 38-28 at the beginning of the third quarter. The Saints turned it on coming out of the locker room looking to get a win against A-10 contender, St. Bonaventure. Siena recorded three of their eight steals in the frame scoring four points off Bonnies turnovers. St. Bonaventure remained ahead until a Sims putback put the Saints by one, 42-41 with just over three minutes remaining. The two teams battled out for the remainder of the quarter.

While St. Bonaventure did not give up their lead throughout the second quarter, the Saints did not allow any second chance points for the Bonnies. Starting in the first quarter, the Bonnies went on an 8-0 run that gave them the lead 26-15. Terry’s trey at 1:53 in the third quarter gave St. Bonaventure their largest lead of the game, 32-20.

Emmanuella Edoka won the opening jump and scored the first basket of the contest for an early 2-0 lead. St. Bonaventure ran the ball down court and drained their first three of the game to take the lead, a lead they would not relinquish throughout the first half.

While St. Bonaventure outrebounded the Saints 43-40, the Saints recorded 24 second chance points compared to the Bonnies 10. Siena was also able to capitalize and tally 22 points off of the 23 St. Bonaventure turnovers. Siena has also recorded eight three’s in their first two games of the season.

Siena will end a stretch of playing three games in six days to open their 2017-18 campaign as they travel to Ivy League opponent Harvard on Wednesday, November 15. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
