Berkshire County team gives teens their first shot at basketball

DALTON, Mass. - High school basketball season is in high gear right now and fans are really raising the roof in one gymnasium. However, the team they're cheering for was just created this year. The kids on the Wahconah Warriors in Dalton, Mass., have never played before, because they would never had the chance.

The team consists of students with intellectual disabilities, paired up with students without.

This is a varsity sport, school funded and part of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association. It's not a special ed program – or any other kind of standalone program. Players even earn their varsity letters.

Their ability level may be different than other varsity teams. However, the point here is that they are able.
