Researchers at RPI in Troy are trying to clean up some of the trash in space.
They sent NewsChannel 13 a diagram of a device they are developing called "Oscar"-- it stands for Obsolete Spacecraft Capture and Renewal.
After it's done collecting debris, Oscar will be programed to de-orbit within five years, destroying itself and everything it collected.
According to the European Space Agency, there are nearly 129 million pieces of debris floating in space.
